UCMP2: Bombing Run

BR/CTF-UCMP2-Sublimity - "If only nature and the human race with their technology could live side by side... In a parallel universe, this is not a utopia, but reality. Only in this universe can one witness such sublimity..."

Dark Pulse: First of all, before we even get into the meat of this review, let me make it clear that Bombing Run isn't one of my favorite gametypes. It's not the fact that it takes lots of skill to play, it's that one rarely finds that skill, and as a result it ends up that 75% of the action is the two or three guys who know how to play duking it out, and the rest merely doing supporting roles. Anyway, Sublimity is an alright BR map I suppose, though a bit large for playercounts toward the lower end, perhaps 10-12 would work better. Pickups are plentiful and you're never too far from the gun of your choice. A pretty solid defensive team, however, could probably shut down most, if not all, attempts from the enemy to get that ball into the goal - and snipers will have a field day tacking those jobs. Run along, little bunny - you're going to need that health if you think so or not.

Hal: This map comes in two flavors in the UCMP2 pack: CTF and BR. I personally think this map works better for Bombing Run than its counterpart works for CTF. The over-sized feel and uncluttered look really work well with the gametype and are conducive to the passing that is necessary. The map itself is attractive and has a reasonable amount of polish. The dome windows and the creeping ivy serve to soften the hard lines of the rest of the level. I can't say that I'm a fan of the gi-gantor flowers that dominate the center of the level, but I can overlook that because the rest of it works well. Both versions offer plenty of routes for the flag or ball carrier. The side routes offer up some great z-axis combat and more than a few hidey-holes for when you have the enemy flag.

Raffi B: I’ve gotta say, I like this one. The pathways and architecture are generally uncluttered and flow is superb. Some of the architecture in the center area is questionable, though, but overall I think this map is great for casual play. That said, a few times when playing this I began to spend more than 10 seconds searching for a weapon (with translocator enabled), when in other parts I could grab 3 weapons in that amount of time. It seems like some of the item placement could be redone to fit the map’s large-scale gameplay more.
