MODIFICATIONS
Epic culled the cream of the crop from the Make Something Unreal Contest, ran them through the Atari bug checkers, and published them all in the Editor's Choice Edition package. All of these mods are freely available for download, but having them all on one disk is certainly a convenience and it sure helps direct newcomers to some of the best mods this game has to offer.
It's amazing, the sheer variety of mods represented here. Everything from realistic World War 2 shooters to "sports" and driving modifications. It's a testament to the power of the Unreal Engine and the creativity of the people creating free content for it.
Following are descriptions of each included mod taken from the respective official site or it's Beyondunreal ModWorks page.
- Air Buccaneers - contains a new team-based multiplayer gametype with airships, cannons, airmines, and various other pseudo ancient gadgets. The game is a compelling combination of graceful air ballet fierce pirate-like action and 3D tactical manoeuvring.
- Alien Swarm - Alien Swarm is an overhead view tactical squad-based shooter. Set in the the distant future, the players take the role of a Commander in the Interstellar Armed Forces. They must guide their squad of marines through Swarm infested colonies, overrun bases and outposts, to achieve a variety of objectives. Featuring Assault Rifles, Heat Tracking Guns, Sentry Guns, Flamethrowers and more. Supports co-operative multiplayer.
- ChaosUT2 - gravity vortex, turrets, rail gun, napalm/poison/flash grenades, hoverboard, offhand grapple, anti-gravity belt, King of the Hill game type, melee fighting (with new weapons, custom animations and full bot support), laser mines, the Proxies, crossbow, flame/ice thrower, and...and...and....
- Clone Bandits - In a post-apocalyptic future, two warring clans of ruffians and ne'er-do-wells have built their outposts over the ruins of an abandoned military research compound, which just happens to be stocked with life-giving clones. Sweet, sweet clones! As a "Bandito de los Clones" it is your duty to steal this precious genetic cargo from the other team, lest they sully the delicate ribonucleic strands with their inferior (dare I say - scurvy?) adenine and thymine.
Capture the Clone Pumps to siphon clones from your enemy's supply or boldly invade their compound, grab Clone Jars, and hightail it back to your own base. Drop 'em off at your own Jar Points to complete the transaction. Trafficking in human flesh was never so easy or fun!
- Deathball - DeathBall turns UT2004 into a mix of Football, American Football, Handball and war. In the end its a pure sports game, and at that a First Person Sports Game. Don't expect this to be a shooter, just because its for UT2004! So you got these football pitches, and you have to get the ball into the enemy goal. You have a melee weapon and a balllauncher.
With your weapon you can kick other players around, kill the enemy ballowner with 2 hits and also kick the ball away (volley).In your own penalty zone you can kill all enemy players with one hit. With the ball launcher you can charge up a shot, the longer you hold it the harder it will be and you can even bend the ball, so it will curl in the air.Just like in football you should have a keeper in your goal. He has some special abilities like he's 130% faster than others & he can dodge.
Death Ball should be played with 5 players on each team, but a few maps also support lower player counts.The gameplay is very easy too learn, but it's hard to master. At first it seems to be pretty simple, but the more you play the more you realise how complex it is and how many possibilities your team has.
- Domain 2049 - Domain is a tactical, team based FPS, set in the year 2049 in a totalitarian world of a dominant global government, underground rebellion and sinister corporations. The mod features 4 unique teams and one gametype (with two more planned).
- Frag.Ops - A semi-realistic Total Conversion for Unreal Tournament 2004 involving two teams, Mercenaries and Special Ops, in a fight for military supremacy across the planet. FO features realistic weaponry, mission-based gameplay, an original Action system for sprints and resting, lazy weapon movement, and much more.
- Jailbreak 2004 - Jailbreak adds a new gametype to Unreal Tournament. Frag the players of the enemy team and send them to jail. When you've bagged them all, your team scores a point. But guard your release switch: if an enemy player reaches it, he releases his team mates and you'll have to start rounding them up again. Fight your way into enemy territory to release you own jailed team mates.
- RedOrchestra - An Eastern Front World War II mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. The mod contains many authentic weapons and characters from the time period, and many high quality maps to play them on. Red Orchestra is a realistic mod, which means that we are trying to put you into the boots of a real soldier and experience real combat as best as we can represent it.
- Rocketeer - A mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 implementing Rocket Arena's gameplay:- Maps have multiple arenas in which concurrent games take place- Games are round-based- There are no items in the arenas- All players start with full armor, all weapons and full ammo- No self-damage and no team damage- Movement has been improved with rocket jumping and plasma climbing.- Players get rewards for nice moves and combos (air rox, rocket snipe, etc)
- UnWheel - A driving modification for Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 with a focus on fun driving.
Rather than just racing, many different vehicle-based gametypes are on offer, giving the player an assortment of different styles of play and environments in which to drive.
Along with this wide range of modes of play, UnWheel features every type of four-wheeled vehicle you could think of, from sports and rally cars, to monster trucks and massive mining trucks. Each vehicle can be customised to suit the driving envinronment or your driving style.
