10 Tips to Become a Better Magic: The Gathering™ – Battlegrounds Duelist
- A creature’s attacking strength (power) and the creature’s life (toughness) are displayed around the creature’s feet. A creature’s power is the amount of damage it does per attack to any creature or duelist. A creature’s toughness is amount of damage is can withstand before it dies. Power is displayed on the left and toughness is displayed on the right.
- Creatures that survive a battle respawn to their initially cast location. However, creatures that have trample do not respawn until they reach the enemy duelist.
- Try to time your shield as enemy creatures attack in order to minimize the mana used while shielding. You only need to be shielding the moment the damage is inflicted.
- Using your duelist’s attack on enemy creatures with “one” toughness remaining is a great way to eliminate creatures without using any additional mana.
- Give yourself space to summon a creature to block an enemy creature’s oncoming attack.
- Destroyed creatures drop mana shards. These shards give a small amount of mana to either duelist that picks them up. Mana shards do not increase your maximum amount of mana. Only mana crystals can do that.
- Whenever possible, try to get creatures to fight on your side of the arena. This makes it easier for you to collect the mana shards as they drop.
- Mana crystals and mana shards can be stolen from the enemy’s side of the arena.
- Spells like Reckless Charge and Giant Growth can be cast on any creature you control. They can even be cast on creatures already engaged in battle.
- Sometimes it is wise to take a moderate amount of damage to save up mana for a big spell that could turn the tide of battle.
