During this period of time, I also made a point to spend more time with my wife. I don't know how successful I was, but I tried. Fortunately, the Powers That Be provided me with quite a forgiving and tolerant woman to share my adult life with, and I can tell you with all honesty, I find her as compelling, charming and beautiful as the first day I met her 14 years ago, and I'm extremely fortunate to have her as my partner.Ok, back to gaming. After about four months of DoW, I picked up three copies of Guild Wars. Yeah, with two kids, every decent game I buy requires me to buy one for each of the boys as well. To make a long story short, Guild Wars is the shit. It's not World of Warcraft. It's certainly a smaller game, but without a lot of the things people DON'T like about WoW. It's utterly addictive, fun, well-managed and run by Arena Net, and best of all, no monthly fee.I spent the next several months playing GW with the kids, joined a guild, and continue to enjoy both the PvE and PvP portions of the game. One of the great things about Guild Wars (there are lots of them), is that Arena Net provides streaming updates to the game, so you don't have to worry about patches, etc. I've grown to really respect and appreciate how well this developer supports the userbase, reacts to issues, improves the game and responds to the community. This is a great company, with a great franchise game. If you happen to play, look me up. One of my character names is Denny Pace.At some point during my initial five months or so of Guild Wars, I came to terms with my employment situation, and calmed down enough to think a little more clearly about the other things in my life, including BeyondUnreal. The site continued on in my absence, quite well as a matter of fact. The primary reason for this was Hal and RaptoR, who refused to let BU die. Hal, as you all know, has always been a monster with the news. What you might not know is that Hal spends a LOT of time travelling in RealLife(tm), and that posting news for him can be very difficult, depending on how long his day has been, what kind of tin can and string internet connection his current hotel has, etc. He's also a dad, and has his responsibilities just like I do.RaptoR goes to university, and has time sucks of his own to deal with. Major ones. Still, despite all the obstacles in his way, he managed to put together a skinnable redesign of BU (I stuck with the old skool Liquid Classic skin, btw...). This was no minor effort, and would not have been done without his dedication to the site and the community who flocks here every day.
